No Greater Joy: A Mother's Day Devotional

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." — 3 John 1:4

This verse feels especially meaningful on Mother’s Day because it reminds us what truly matters most.

John says, “I have no greater joy…” Not the greatest pride. Not the greatest accomplishment. Joy. The deep kind that comes from seeing our children know Jesus and continue walking toward Him day by day.

And notice the word walking.

Walking does not mean perfection. Walking means movement. Growth. Learning. Sometimes it means taking strong steps forward, and other times it means simply putting one foot in front of the other.

Some mothers today are celebrating joyful seasons. Others are carrying concerns quietly in their hearts. Maybe your child is struggling emotionally, battling anxiety, carrying heavy burdens, or walking through challenges you wish you could fix for them. Maybe you spend a lot of time praying, helping, encouraging, and wondering if you’re doing enough.

This verse is a reminder that our hope is not anchored in our ability to hold everything together perfectly. Our hope is anchored in Jesus, who is Truth itself.

As mothers, we keep sowing truth. We keep loving. We keep praying. We keep pointing our children toward Christ — trusting that God is working even in the places we cannot yet see.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of motherhood. Help me continue to lead my children with love, grace, and truth. When I worry, remind me that You love them even more than i do. Strengthen the mothers who are carrying heavy hearts today, and help us trust You with every step our children take. In Jesus' name, Amen.
